How do I stop using commas? They just seem unnecessary to the story and I don’t have a replacement

How do I get rid of them? They’re haunting me I swear. Every other sentence is a compound sentence and I just can’t get a grasp on how to explain it differently. Period breaks just feel so sudden and like they break up the story. Also, the word but! It accompanies commas as well. Always there, and I just don’t know to get out of the habit of using them.
