Should dps help with afflicted?

Story short, I was in a mythic dungeon as a disc priest with a (low geared) Monk dps, I noticed he wasnt dispelling an afflicted so I asked him to. And then he said he wont because i could heal them... It shouldnt be that hard to dispell one? Or am i wrong?
