Primitivo Synonyms

My friend’s birthday is coming up in a few days. Now, he doesn’t know much about wine besides the fact that he absolutely adores Primtivo, it’s the only wine he drinks.

For a birthday gift, of course, as every time, I’m getting wine. I don’t want to give him a Primtivo, cause he has about 12 of those, but I don’t want to venture too far from a Primtivo. I was thinking similar to Primtivo might be a young CdP, Amarone, something Italian, or just stay in Rhone?

Budgets around euro 50. Please give me your suggestions for something that’s similar to the fruitiness and bold flavour of a Primtivo.
