Comparing the countdown to triple j's most played artists

Given the large discussion around yesterday's countdown and how it reflects on triple j itself, I thought it might be interesting to look at the station's top 10 most played in 2024 in comparison.

  1. The Buoys (0 songs)

  2. Remi Wolf (0 songs)

  3. Cosmo's Midnight (0 songs)

  4. Billie Eilish (8 songs)

  5. Teenage Dads (0 songs)

  6. The Kid LAROI (2 songs)

  7. Hockey Dad (0 songs)

  8. Royel Otis (4 songs)

  9. Sycco (0 songs)

  10. Lime Cordiale (2 songs).

6/10 of the most played artists didn't chart in the countdown. Billie massively boosts the number of songs contributed by this group overall. 5/10 are guitar-based bands, only 2 of those 5 charted a song.

This fairly simple breakdown obviously doesn't take into account what music these acts actually released last year, but triple j obviously thought it fitting to put them all on heavy rotation.

I think it's pretty interesting considering most people are lamenting triple j for giving a platform to too much pop music, but it seems like the artists they are platforming aren't getting the backing of Hottest 100 voters.
