First transgender woman elected to a NJ school board announces run for Dover council

“Daniella Mendez, the first trans woman elected to a board of education seat in New Jersey, will end her term after two years as president of the Dover board and run for town council in 2025.

“Mendez, who also works as assistant director of community engagement for the Morris County nonprofit Edge New Jersey, will seek the Democratic nomination for a seat representing Ward One. She chose not to seek re-election to the school board this year.”

“‘I am running for council because I believe in Dover’s potential,’ Mendez, 36, said in her campaign announcement. ‘Ward One deserves leadership that is responsive, proactive, and fully committed to our community. Together, we can create a future that reflects the strength and resilience of our town.’”
