Had a realization on my third playthrough

Never really thought about it this way but it really hit me when I read the last sentence of this journal entry.

“Do I understand?”

I think Ellie is so lost in her anger on this quest for revenge that she never really stops to think about why Joel did what he did. But when we get to the last scene in the game, and she sees the bond that Abby and Lev have, and remembers Joel telling her that he would do it all over again, she remembers he did it because he loved her.

I’m sure a lot of you are thinking, “well, duh”. But if I were to give the two games each an overarching theme, I’d say the first game was love, the second game forgiveness. But reading that line kind of shifted my perspective and gave me more insight into how Ellie was feeling at that time. I think this was a very dark and lonely time for her but simply being reminded that she was loved not for her immunity but for who she is was the thing she needed to finally find peace and begin to understand and forgive Joel.

Anyway thanks for coming to my wine drunk Ted talk.
