The mysterious Ada

In S1 when she is reacquainted with Mr Eckhart Ada mentions that she came to live with Agnes 10 years ago when Mr Van Rhijn died. What was she doing before this time? If Marian’s father sold everything and moved into the house he was renting where did Ada go? She said her father died when she was young so was she sent to live with other family? How was she getting by financially prior to living with Agnes? She seems to have some “street smarts” knowing what is implied by the Chamberlain affair and Oscar sowing his wild oats. I hope they delve into this in S2!
