I am privacy minded and only have WhatsApp, without permissions, to stay in touch with family. Somebody adding themselves just allowed WhatsApp to access my contact list...I immediately revoked it, but is the damage done now?
So everyone in my WhatsApp list are family members that only show their numbers. Because WhatsApp cannot access my contacts, I cannot add people - they can only add me. Somebody just did that, then saw my phone, and clicked on "allow WhatsApp to access contacts". I revoked that right away, but am I guessing right that just a few seconds of access to my phone's contacts will have allowed WhatsApp to copy them and mess up my whole idea of privacy towards Meta?
For messenging, I usually use Signal. I do not have any other Meta apps installed.
