Accidentally drank after 4 years
I was flying home yesterday after spending a guys weekend with my best 5 I haven't seen in years. It was the first time I had seen these guys since I sobered up over 4 years ago, and I had a great weekend. I truly felt like I wasn't missing out on anything by not drinking, and my buddies were very supportive. Anyway, to finish off the great weekend I got bumped up to first on my return flight. When the FA was getting drink orders I got my usual, sparkling water. A few minutes later she returned with my water and I took a big sip. As soon as I swallowed I could feel the burn, and then the taste came moments later.....gin and tonic. My stomach dropped, my heart rate shot up and anxiety immediately took over my body.
As the flight attendant walked by, I handed her the drink and asked what she had served me. She confirmed sparkling water, but all I could do was shake my head and hand her the drink. She brought me a sparkling water in a can but my hands were shaking so bad I couldn't drink.
A few weeks ago, someone else posted about accidentally having a sip of beer after being given the wrong drink. They talked about how they were unsure how to feel, and a lot of individuals from this community, including myself, reassured them that they weren't at fault and did everything right.
I want to say thank you to u/headlikeasharksfin for their original post and to say I know exactly how you feel. I spent the rest of the flight trying not to have a full-on panic attack, but by the time I landed I was in a much better place. I kept thinking of your words and the comments and it really helped me put things in perspective.
I guess that is why i am writing this. I needed a place to get my thoughts out there but maybe this will help someone else someday. This place is a wonderful resource and I appreciate you all.
