Who else is avoiding romantic movies with single dads in them?

I’m a big lover of those cheesy holiday movies (hallmark, Netflix whatever just give me the cheese). If they’re bad my husband and I enjoy making fun of them together, if they’re good even he gets into it. But I realized something the other day:

I will always pass on any movie that has a single dad as the male protagonist (I would pass on a movie with a single mom, but funny enough I haven’t seen any like that yet). Even if everything else looks like a good movie, as soon as I see “single dad” or watch the trailer or a few minutes of the actual movie and it’s clear that’s where it’s going I go find something else to watch.

Do I hate single dads? No. But I think I feel repulsed at watching Hollywood romanticize step parents and their role. Like it makes me feel sick to my stomach. I will never measure up to that ideal nor would I want to try.

Anyone else? I would guess there are plenty of us out there who enjoy that plot set up - which is fine, there was a time I loved that plot.
