Question, I'm a new player

So I just stared the game about an hour ago, when I was pressed to choose a lead character, which struck me as odd cuz both characters are in the party anyway, but now I'm realizing that I can just change the order aka lead in the menu, I was beginning to think that my original choice might have changed the experience in some way, but now I'm not sure, was there a point to the original choice or am I just think to much?
