“SF-LA rivalry” only exists in SF

Born in SF, raised in Marin. Lived in LA since 2019. I can officially report back to my fellow San Franciscans that Angelenos:

(1) Have zero idea (literally none) that there is a rivalry between SF and LA;

(2) Generally like SF a lot;

(3) Only consider NY their rival.

So, what’s with all the LA hate??? Bc fr, they don’t hate you back: they like you!

Of what rivalry do I speak? I distinctly remember growing up in the 90s/00s and regularly hearing SF Bay residents denigrate LA like some jilted lover. Even the Chronicle’s language would give off the impression that there was always some competition with LA. (Sorry can’t think of specifics.)

As it is, there’s no one in LA making the argument LA is the better city; virtually everyone here is in agreement that SF is objectively more beautiful and livable.
