Collars and collie necks
Hello!
I plan on getting my first dog some time later, a rough collie pup, as for my research I came to conclusion it's the best breed for my lifestyle. But I'm stuck with one topic, a collar. :)
I'm thinking of a martingale collar, and I don't know how to choose its size. In other dogs it wouldn't be a problem, their heads are bigger than necks. So in collie case, the collar must be slip proof. Regular slips I consider cruel cause they're choke collars, harnesses aren't recommended by the owners in one forum because of matting all the fur, most martingales have chains (fur problem again). So I want to choose like a 'solid' martingale, without chain, custom made (most likely nylon or paracord, rolled leather collars are very rare in my country).
- How they measure it? The all-tight collar shall be the right-behind-the-ears length? And the relaxed martingale lays near the shoulders?
- And as for the seperate small lace where the ID tags are, not a regular collar where the leash is attached. Its length? Right behind ears too? So it's not lost, when the dog plays, scratches neck etc
Sorry for such weird questions, I just can't find this info anywhere, photos don't help too, as the dogs are all fluffy and I can't see their collars :D
