Preparing for PhD or PsyD Application

Hi! After 5 years of dreadful work in tech I’ve decided to pursue my passion. I want to be a psychologist working with assessments and evaluations primarily. I love teaching so I’m thinking if I should go PhD route but since I don’t have any background academically in psychology, what would be a good place to start? I want to prepare for my applications without spending a lot of money. I’d appreciate if anyone can help me with mandatory and important things I need to make sure to have a strong application? This is a big step for me since I’ll be turning 30 this year and it feels like starting from scratch
