Looking to purchase a new fax machine
Questions first, then context. This is more information gathering than recommendation seeking. (If you know of a better forum, please send me there).
How can I tell if a printer is fax capable using the new protocols if it isn't listed in manuals(I don't know the right terminology)? It just says "can fax"
If you know of a helpful website that explains the process and terminology, please let me know.

We are in healthcare, therefore faxing is a must. We just transitioned from POTS to ... I don't even know the right name. I guess fax over VoIP? I'm struggling to find the right terminology.
Anyways one of our machines can no longer fax. The provider told us it must have VoIP capability. We are wanting to purchase a new one, but I cannot find documentation anywhere online about which printers are capable of faxing with this new technology. (again, missing terminology)
I've spent several hours looking for information, digging through manuals etc. I just keep finding "sign up for our service" rather than true information.
I'm confused by the different protocols. I.E t.38, g.711, g.726 and I can't figure out how my old lines are supposed to be working now. They are working, but I don't know how.

Currently, we have an HP laserjet Pro MFP M426FDN. I checked its replacement model and it just says "can fax". I called HP up and they said "I dunno" call support. Support hung up on me.
It needs to print as well. We print maybe 1000 pages/month and fax around 400/month. So it doesn't need to be heavy duty.
Also, I'm not stuck on HP. Other brands are acceptable. I just want to be able to tell my boss, "This will work. Buy it.", and be correct. I'm sure most new fax machines should support digital(?) faxing, but I want to be certain.
Also, for various reasons, I'm not looking to migrate to a cloud service, email to fax, or anything like that for the time being. That will be a future project, but it hinges on how other projects fall. This is just one machine of many.
