Unpopular opinion: Besides Ash and Leon, all Master8 characters are on the same level in the ANIME (Iris when she get a gimmic)
I think it's very normal for people to put someone like Cynthia above and some like Diantha below due to their games counterparts...but in the anime there isn't anything that tell me Cynthia is stronger than the other Champions.
If anyone between Lance, Alain, Diantha, Cynthia and Steven battle, anybody could come out as the winner, and then lose to the same person the next time.
The issue is that we only got that example with Diantha beating Lance (who was runner up last M8).
Steven lost to Ash Alain lost to Leon And Cynthia beat the only non gimmic trainer
Game reputation influences lot people opinion on those characters IMO.
