possible reasons for the change in my ping avg?

i've been playing on this pc i built for about 2 months and didn't have any issues up until now.

a week ago my ping suddenly started casually spiking from 40 to 200 ms which wasn't a big issue at first, but it's gotten worse over time and now it's always on 200 spiking to a few thousand ms

could the origin of the problem be the pc itself? i'm currently using powerline, not sure if those become weaker over time?
