Positivity Corner -- share some things you like about this season!

With all the snarking and the controversies and the politics going on this season, it's easy to get trapped in a negativity spiral. Here's a little happy corner for you to share all the things about this race that make you happy! Save your negativity for literally anywhere else in this sub, this is for positive comments.

I'll start:

  1. a movie like The Substance getting nominated for BP is HUGE! This means a lot for the future of genre films actually getting major awards recognition!

  2. Though I may have some issues with some, it's great to see so many female-led films in contention. Half, yes half! of the BP nominees are primarily about women. This would've been unheard-of just a few years ago.

  3. I've always been a fan of Demi Moore since the Hunchback of Notre Dame and her memoir was so vulnerable and impactful. I can relate to her past struggles all too well. While most of the others came from wealth, privilege, and family connections, she truly had to claw her way up because no one was going to hand anything to her. She is not a perfect person, but I find her very inspirational, and she gives me hope that I'll be able to crawl out of this hole too. Blah blah blah narrative win, I don't care. Her performance is well-deserving on its own, and the narrative just makes her wins all the more sweeter.

  4. I'm so very happy that I'm Still Here is nominated in three categories and that it's getting so much international attention. A lot of US Americans are uncomfortable with (or even unaware of) our history of supporting military dictatorships in several Latin American countries, and that's why this is such an important movie for us to see, because it is a terrible history we are still repeating. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the theatre next week.
