I don't like being ethnically indian
i'm gonna start by saying I live in the UK. I know racism against indians isn't so bad here, but what I'm about to say still applies.
I know that indians don't exactly have the best reputation because of the questionable stuff they do in India, which I get, but my fucking god we can't catch a break.
Everytime you hear someone talking about Indians it's never positive. They'll use the opportunity to say some stupid joke about how Indians 'don't use deodorant' or how we're disgusting, don't shower, have dirty food and how we're street shitters. And how can I forgot the obligatory Indians being creep statements. So we're not only seen as smelly and dirty people, but creeps who force themselves on people too? Great. Also the fact that we're seen as unnattractive by literally every other race has been damaging to my self esteem to say the least.
On Insta, of course there's racist jokes on there. That's fine, I get it's Instagram, a lot of edgy teenagers are on there. However, a lot of it is genuine racism. You'll see a lot of people describing Indians in ways which make them seem like they actually hate us and are disgusted by us, which is obviously so off-putting. It's almost like they see us as sub-human in a way. (I might be reaching here but that's how I feel with some of these comments).
Case in point literally half an hour ago I saw some post making fun of Indians for being 'street shitters' and my God the comments section was like I joined a KKK meeting or something 😭 It was just pure racism and no one was disagreeing with the comments.
Like I said, I do get why people may view Indian culture in a bad light. I do agree, there's bad in our culture. (they ignore all the good though) What sucks though is the fact that people use it as an excuse to be hateful and insult Indian people in general. Like seriously, I am the exact opposite of whatever those creep and dirty stereotypes are, yet I can't help but feel hurt by them because I know damn well that people are going to view me that way just because of my skin colour, no matter how much I try to prove otherwise. I also understand that racism is standard at this point, a lot of people have gone through it. But it feels like being racist to Indians is genuinely so normalised, and that no one really cares if you're racist to them because it's 'funny'. We're the exception for some reason.
I know I probably seem weak for venting like this but it's how I feel about all of this. It just sucks feeling like there's something wrong with who you are, and the fact that people will most likely view you in a negative light for reasons you have no control over. Man I just wanna be seen a normal human being
