Why doesn't NI have piers like England?

Just a curiosity question, but why doesn't our costal towns have "pleasure" piers like you see all over England. (Picture of example)

Is it geography, religion, social, lack of interest? Did the lasting effects of the famine cause things like this to be put off at the time they were getting built?

Or we had them and they're gone.

I can't think of any as far as I'm aware.

Any info is appreciated
