Here’s something some of you may find interesting.

This is an aerial photo of Pin Oak Court in Vermont South, Victoria in Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs taken in 1975. 10 years before it became the setting of Ramsay Street on Neighbours.

In 1975, there were three vacant lots. The first of these vacant lots to have a house built on it was the one on the top left (Karl and Susan’s house) in 1978. Followed by the vacant lot on the bottom right in 1980 (the share house currently owned by Vera Punt). And finally the remaining vacant lot on the bottom left (Terese’s house) in 1983.

At some point in the second half of 1984, television creators were looking for a cul de sac in this area to double as the setting for an upcoming television show. They scouted every cul de sac until they found one they really liked, Pin Oak Court.

Filming of Neighbours began in late 1984 (I don’t have an exact date), and it made its debut on 18 March, 1985 on Channel 7 in Australia. After being cancelled at the end of the 1985 season by Channel 7, Neighbours was picked up by Channel 10 and returned to a new channel on 20 January, 1986.

At some point in 1986, Neighbours was sold to the United Kingdom and made its debut from Season 1 Episode 1 on BBC1 on 27 October, 1986.
