Did ASAP Rocky actually add anything to the game?
I’m quite enjoying NFS Unbound, with it likely being my sleeper hit of the year, but one thing I don’t really get is how ASAP Rocky is meant to be a large part of the game?
I noticed him first in the takedown events, where he congratulates you with some emotionless lines that sound like he just texted them to the devs with his phone speaker.
Then later on you actually meet him and drive him, and the whole thing feels like a rich out of touch person’s podcast. He says that he’s a normal human being with problems like everyone else and being rich doesn’t change him. And that may or may not be true, but the whole thing is delivered in and ineloquent way where he waffles on to get to the point. It feels like he just rambled on for a single take and felt like that was good enough and sent it in for the game. The whole section was awkward and couldn’t end soon enough.
Outside of that, he’s not really involved with the events of Unbound in any real way? Why not get rid of the Alec character that we never even see, and have ASAP being the one secretly funding and pulling all the strings of the racing scene, and the reveal of meeting him and finding that out be a big thing? Or… something? Just about anything would be more involved than what we actually got.
I get that developers might want to include a celebrity to try and appeal to a new audience to buy their game, but honestly I’d have preferred if they used the money that they spent on getting Rocky on more small time voice actors to have like 10 more racing personalities or something.
