Luka and LeBron have had very similar careers so far.

I was looking up some of the similarities between these two because i saw a dumb post about Luka’s first ring bring Bron’s last and how he would retire and crown Luka the new king. They have a pretty crazy amount of things in common.

LeBron James played seven seasons with the Cavaliers, made the NBA Finals in 2007, and left for Miami in free agency after the 2010 season. Luka Dončić has played seven seasons with the Mavericks, made the NBA Finals in 2024, and was traded to the Lakers in 2025.

LeBron vs Luka

Regular Season Stats (First 7 Seasons) Points per game: 27.8 vs. 28.6 Rebounds per game: 7.0 vs. 8.7 Assists per game: 7.0 vs. 8.3 Field goal percentage: 47.5% vs. 47.0% Three-point percentage: 32.9% vs. 34.8% Free throw percentage: 74.2% vs. 74.8%

Playoff Performance Playoff appearances: 5 vs. 4 Finals appearances: 1 vs. 1 Championships: 0 vs. 0

LeBron carried a weak Cavs team to the Finals in 2007, while Luka led the Mavericks to the Finals in 2024 but fell short.

Accolades MVPs: 2 vs. 0 All-Star selections: 6 vs. 5 All-NBA First Team: 4 vs. 3

The biggest gap is the MVPs—by this point, LeBron had already won two, while Luka has yet to win one.

The Big Picture Both were elite offensive players who carried their teams early on, both made the Finals but didn’t win, and both left their original teams after seven seasons—LeBron by choice, Luka via trade.

I think i might be cherry picking stats a little bit but both leaving after their 7th year in the biggest basketball news of the decade is pretty crazy to me. Especially after both promised to stay their entire career. Obviously Luka didn’t want this but it still somewhat lines up.

Interested to see if y’all think i’m crazy or have anything else to add.
