Just rewatched Carlito's Way after couple years, there’s something I don’t understand.
If he’s being on the street for that long and he being in prison for 5 years, why wouldn’t he respect Benny? That’s the first rule on the street and prison if you don’t respect someone there’s consequences. And he couldn’t tell people who’s around you are those you must beware, someone seems trustworthy enough already had told him his buddies are already turned against him, he still told pachanga his schedule of getting out. Time changes but I don’t think rules will change, not to mention he trust a crackhead enough to risk his own life. Brotherhood is a lie and the lie speaks the truth, how couldn’t he knows that, he even said himself “Favor gonna kill you faster than a bullet”.
In the end I donno if he’s gonna get away with Italian mobs but if he can just tell the truth that he visited his crackhead buddy to empty his gun so they can whack him, maybe things will turn better for him. While he’s trying to get out but he still thinks he’s on his prime, still handling things on his street ways. When he didn’t pay respect to Benny, things already turned down at that point, he no longer has connections but made a enemy. I don’t think he’s a wiseguy. Benny was smart enough to know a guy who betrayed his friend is not trustworthy so he killed pachanga in the end, he paid respect to carlito in the first place too, more like a wiseguy, 20 years after maybe he’ll be another king.
Recently I also watched Fargo by coen brothers, and it’s about lies and consequences, it’s bit off topic so I’m not gonna talk about it here.
