Hairdresser thinned my hair out from the roots without permission

Today I got my hair cut professionally and she thinned my hair out without consulting/asking me first. By the time I realised she had done this one one side.

Even worse, when I told her I didn’t want my hair thinned, she said she was not thinning from the middle but in fact the scissors were pulling hair out from the roots! I’d never seen this technique done before, her scissors were nowhere near my roots. Anyway, she said she would have to do a bit on the other side to “balance it out” and proceeded to do so, even showing me that the technique wasn’t taking much hair out.

It looks fine styled but I’m terrified to wash my hair after the cut to see the damage. Has anyone been subject to this technique before and Is it going to take forever to grow out?
