oof, time to get offline
discussion rant? im not sure.
but i’ve been seeing some pretty interesting posts lately. on multiple platforms.
i think everyone, at this point, is aware of the tiktok of the cisgendered man claiming that he has the “spirit of a lesbian”. the response to that video is pretty frustrating because there’s been so many cases of straight, cisgendered men claiming to be lesbian. a lot of people are chalking it up to him being an egg, but given that he has been adamant about his gender identity that’s not the case. many lesbians have tried to communicate that this kind of behavior is one of the many factors as to why men are somehow always included within lesbianism. you can safely assume that the responses were that they were transphobic, that they don’t know history, or they’re completely taking it a joke.
another post i saw was along the lines of “queer people used to throw bricks at police, but now we’re just policing everyone’s labels.” the phrase and discussion itself isn’t necessarily the problem, but the comments are a mess. many were valid discussion of how non-binary lesbians are treated within the community. i believe that non-binary lesbians are valid within their identity because lesbians have always expressed themselves in non-confirming ways. who knows how many lesbians have been assaulted way back then when it was illegal to wear pants, etc.
what didn’t sit right with me is that trans men are also lesbians. when lesbian means nonmen loving nonmen. why are men always included into lesbianism? i do believe this is a case of being so progressive, that we end up back into a conservative mindset under the guise of being inclusive. the reasoning is lesbian history, but history should be a reference. not an objective rule or end-all-be-all for the present and future. unfortunately there’s always going to bigotry, but in the present (the US) there has been some sort of progress to the point where there’s so much more community and development. granted, the progress has a possibility of being diminished come 2025. historically, it makes sense why trans men were included into our spaces because apart from being cisgendered and homosexual, being trans was(and still is) more dangerous. doesn’t mean the concept wasnt there, but socially it was too dangerous to truly articulate and enact the identity. but now, i believe that since there’s communities (whether it be online or in real life for some) for every sector, why are trans men included into nonmen loving nonmen? i believe they’re just as valid being our allies and being considered straight or gay. isn’t ir contradictory?
being online has affected me to an embarrassing degree with the amount of discourse and pressure about lesbianism. i’ve noticed that i’ve been a lot more angry and homophobic towards myself and the world. oftentimes just being a keyboard warrior when i could be spending my time being more productive. i think it would be best for me to take a break lmao.
TLDR: taking a break from social medias and lgbtq discourse could be beneficial?? self-awareness of becoming chronically online. probably gonna cut off online discourse and focus on lesbianism in real life.
