Historical Probate
Family did not deal with grandmothers estate upon her death in 1996. She died intestate. Only surviving heir is her child who is still alive.
Family assumption was that the town auctioned the property (died in fire that destroyed house). Title search indicates that the deceased is still the legal owner and amazingly there is no encumbrances. I expect there are a pile of unpaid property taxes.
Property and all parties are in Alberta.
My questions 1) is it worth it to try and probate an estate of this age where we can assume nothing was handled properly at the time. Value of land under $80k 2) is this something that can be done as self service? I worked as a legal assistant years ago but not in real estate.
