Genuine Irish Traditions?
Hello all! If this sort of post is not allowed, please delete.
I am getting married this August to the love of my life and a large part of his ancestry is Irish. He takes pride in this, despite not necessarily being raised with any obvious Irish upbringing. I’d love to surprise him with something on our wedding day to pay homage to his Irish ancestry!
I’ve tried googling various Irish wedding traditions and the like, as well as asking people on Facebook, but a lot of what I’ve found is either stereotypical or not even Irish in origin. I figured my next best bet would be to ask you guys.
Are there any Irish wedding traditions that you know of that I could surprise my fiancé with on our wedding day? Or even if it would have to be planned with his knowledge, that would be okay, too! I’m just looking for authenticity.
People have offered suggestions such as his coat of arms, hand fasting, his tartan, etc. And while I appreciated their suggestions, others quickly chimed in that these things aren’t actually Irish at all. I’m just a bit confounded now and don’t want to get/do something that isn’t actually of Irish origin, as that defeats the purpose. So if anyone could offer any insight or suggestions for GENUINE Irish ideas/traditions, I would be so grateful!
Thank you so much in advance!
