Strange & very inappropriate interview

Ok y’all, I had interview last week that was the most inappropriate and strangest thing I have ever experienced. I left the interview feeling frustrated and I wish I had told them off while I was there.

I interviewed for a HR Generalist position, I’ve been in HR for years. The interview was with the man who runs the company and his colleague who was HR. She maybe said 3 words. He ran the interview.

He started off by asking me,

“ So, I’d like to get to know YOU as a person so I have some questions!”

Started off normal, asked me to walk him through my resume. He then starts with the questions

“ What kind of relationship do you have with your father, do you like him?” I was taken back and asked him why he asked, he said please answer the question! Then goes to ask my if I like my mother, how many siblings I have, what they all do for work and much more.

He asks me what my biggest regret in life was, and to make it a personal answer, not work related! I kept looking at his HR colleague who looked uncomfortable but she did not say a word. He then asks me if I see myself becoming a parent in the future, and if so when.

I know some of these questions were non of his business and illegal to ask, so I finally asked him if he was going to ask me anything about HR. He said he would rather know me personally than what my HR abilities are because you can “ teach HR” but you can’t teach someone to be a good person!

Very strange, he then asks me what my salary is at my current job (illegal to ask) and when I tell him that he says “ wow I bet your company pays you that so you would shut up about salary since you seem like the type who works for money as the main purpose”

I did not even know what to say to that. He told me that I was not worth that salary and he wouldn’t be paying me that.

Anyways the interview went on 1.5 hours and he ends with “ so, what question are you glad I didn’t ask you today?” And I said I’m sorry sir I don’t understand the question, you asked me a variety of strange questions” and he said yes but answer the question! “ he would not let me leave without answering it!

So I went home, emailed him that I was not interested in the posting and told him that the interview was inappropriate and to please withdraw my application.

VERY strange!!
