Navy sailor looking at instrumentation

Currently serving in the US Navy as a Gas Turbine Tech -Electrical. We maintain and operate 4 gas turbine engines, 3 gas generator sets and all the motor controllers, panels, switchboards, and internal communication systems involved with running the plant. In addition to that, I manage and coordinate our shipboard gage calibration program and will at time of separation have roughly 3 years experience T/S, calibrating, and repair/replacing our assets. We have roughly 3-4,000 pneumatic and hydraulic gages, pressure switches, BiMet Thermometers, temp switches in addition to our torque tools and electronic equipment (multimeters and the like). I operate PPC’s and thermo-units almost daily as Gage Cal Coordinator and my job as GSE has me very hands on with the mechanical and electrical part of the plant.

I am looking to apply for the skillbridge program at NRG Energy in Texas which will essentially be a 3 month internship either as plant operator or instrumentation tech. I am wondering if my background will put me a step ahead in regard to starting position/salary. I want to use my experience to my advantage instead of letting it go to waste and pursuing a different field. Am I in a good place to enter the industry?
