Is Huge Bass Even Possible on Headphones? (DT 177X GO + FiiO K5Pro ESS Led to Underwhelming Bass.)

This seems like something easy to research, but between Google, ChatGPT, and Reddit, I'm still having a hard time figuring this out. I recently picked up the DT 177X GO headphones and paired them with a FiiO K5Pro ESS amp. I was expecting more “oomph” in the low end—especially for genres like Drum & Bass—but I’ve been pretty underwhelmed.

I know that headphones won’t replicate the full-body bass you get from a subwoofer, but I still expected something bigger. It seems like the clamp force isn’t strong enough, because pushing the cups tighter to my ears definitely improves the bass (which feels like a red flag for fit). I tried boosting the bass with Peace EQ, but it distorts before it ever starts to sound the way I want.

So I’m left wondering: if I up my budget to around $2k, is it even possible to get truly big, clean bass from headphones? Or am I chasing something that doesn’t really exist in the headphone world?

I’m open to all suggestions—closed-back, open-back, different amps, or even pointing out something silly I might be missing. I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I’d really appreciate some guidance. Thanks in advance for any insights!
