Unpopular Opinion: Tried on the Neverfull and wasn’t a fan

I first want to say that this post is not to be rude towards anyone who has and loves their Neverfull! So many people love theirs, and it is a popular bag for a reason. Just sharing my experience and thoughts.

A few days ago, my husband and I visited our local LV store because I was thinking of purchasing a Neverfull. I was looking for a bag for travel and thought the Neverfull would be a good option.

My husband and I walked into LV and were greeted by the gentleman at the front. We walked around for a moment and a sales associate came up to us and asked if she could help. I told her I was looking to try on the Neverfull MM and GM. She showed me both and I tried both on, and I asked my husband to take pictures and videos of me wearing the bag. She was nice, but I guess I was expecting more of a luxury experience…? No attempt to make a connection with me, and I had to ask for her contact info in case I wanted to come back. I was dressed nicely and was wearing a Chanel bag (not that it should matter, as everyone in theory should be treated equally).

I was severely underwhelmed by the bag. The straps were so thin, the bag felt flimsy, and I couldn’t stomach paying $2,100 plus tax for a bag that was mostly coated canvas. The GM was so large and shapeless and made me look like I was carrying a small boat. I thanked the SA and walked out with my husband. He asked me, “What did you think? Did you love it?” I told him no and that I wouldn’t even spend the money on the bag from a reputable reseller. The entire experience, plus the quality issues that LV has been experiencing lately, completely turned me off to the bag. It was honestly so disappointing after hearing how much everyone loves their Neverfull. I felt like I was missing something.

I then said to him, “Let’s just check Coach and see what they have.” Best decision. The ladies at Coach were kind, accommodating, and so down to earth. One of the SAs at Coach had worked for LV for a bit and was sharing different celebrity stories with me (we live in a very HCOL area). I ended up with the Relay, which was less than 1/4 of the price of a Neverfull and is all leather. I even got a personalized bag tag to make it stand out a bit. The entire experience reminded me of why Coach is such a solid option for good quality bags for the price. I walked out of the Coach store very happy with my purchase! (Side note: This was a purchase I made, not my husband. I like to bring him along to get his opinion because he thinks differently than I do, and I value what he says.)

I do also want to mention that I have the LV Reporter that I bought pre-loved, and that thing is indestructible. But the entire experience made me rethink if I want to buy any additional LV bags in the future.

EDIT: Wow, this post has taken on a life of its own. The focus for me was on the bag itself, not the SA. When I said that I am rethinking buying any LV bags in the future, I actually meant that the quality of the bag made me reconsider any future LV purchases. I wasn’t impressed by the quality of the bag.

As for the SA, I would’ve purchased the bag from her if I absolutely loved it, which I didn’t. The SA is an afterthought in this instance and something that was just kind of the icing on the cake of the whole experience. I didn’t like the bag because of the bag itself, not because of the SA.

And for anyone who commented or upvoted a comment that I am expecting too much or that I expected them to suck up to me, that is 100% not the case, and it is sad that you have time to spend cruelly judging another Reddit user without knowing them or the whole story. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want to be treated warmly when I am about to drop a few thousand dollars on a luxury purchase.
