Any fellow scientists able to help me understand autophagy with water fasting?
I'm a scientist (specificially haem and genetics), and I've been curious of autophagy in fasting as my goal is to regularly induce it to see how my chronic illnesses reacts (hopefully in a positive way!).
Initially I scoured this reddit and seem to get the impression that a 4 day water fast is the way to go for optimum autophagy levels.
I wanted to have a good dive into pubmed to see what the studies say and ive come across some, many of which are locked behind paywalls so ive only been able to ready the abstract, where it mentioned that fasting can stimulate type II autophagic cell death, which can lead to cellular damage/death.
Could any science/medical boffins explain if im not getting something due to not being able to read past the abstract or whether there are guides as to how to avoid this? I dont need it dumbing down but this isnt my field of expertise so Im not an expert myself.
One of the studies ive seen: Shabkhizan R, Haiaty S, Moslehian MS, Bazmani A, Sadeghsoltani F, Saghaei Bagheri H, Rahbarghazi R, Sakhinia E.
