US citizens living in India

I recently got a message from Wells Fargo that they will close my account if I cannot give them a US residential address. I stumbled upon a post about the WF closing Expat accounts on this sub-reddit and that is how I came to know about it. As it turns out, most of the banks as of Sept. 25th 2022 require me to have a US residential address :(

I am aware that there is a megathread on this sub-reddit about problems that US expats face who reside outside of the US. However, I wonder if there is a megathread for US expats living in India. I think that would be very helpful as there are very peculiar issues for US citizens living in India.

For example, US brokerages do not allow a margin account for US citizens living in India. I was told (by TD Ameritrade, Fidelity, IB etc.) that if I were to live in some European country, they'd let me have a margin account. The issue seems to be specific to US expats living in India.

Some of the other issues include not being able to hold BTC/ETH in any of the crypto brokerages. You tell them that you are living in India and they will immediately ask you to move your assets. I did not have to pay taxes for the first two years of my stay in India but I think that is something I will have to face this year. Fortunately, I am not working so no taxes. I am also vary of my TD Ameritrade brokerage account pulling a US residency requirement. I will then have to worry about the brokerage account on top of my Wells Fargo account.

I'd really appreciate it if you guys can pitch in and list out the issues related to finance that are specific to US expats living in India. Please please please share them and help us all to navigate through this annoying shitstorm of issues.

In case there is a megathread addressing issues specific to US citizens living in India, please point me to it.
