Does ChatGPT Defend Islam or Am I Just Tripping?
So I’ve been messing around with ChatGPT, and honestly, it feels like it’s always trying to defend Islam. Anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?
For context, I asked it about this hadith:
Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي اللّٰه عنه:
The Prophet ﷺ said, “Paradise and the Fire (Hell) argued, and the Fire (Hell) said, ‘I have been given the privilege of receiving the arrogants and the tyrants.’ Paradise said, ‘What is the matter with me? Why do only the weak and the humble among the people enter me?’ On that, Allah said to Paradise, ‘You are My Mercy which I bestow on whoever I wish of My slaves.’ Then Allah said to the Fire, ‘You are My (means of) punishment by which I punish whoever I wish of My slaves. And each of you will have its fill.’ As for the Fire (Hell), it will not be filled till Allah will put His Foot over it whereupon it will say, ‘Enough! Enough! Enough!’ At that time, it will be filled, and its different parts will come closer to each other; and Allah will not wrong any of His created beings. As regards Paradise, Allah will create a new creation to fill it with.”
Basically, I asked ChatGPT if I understood it right—does this mean Allah is just going to keep creating people to throw into Hell and Paradise? Like… that’s wild to me. It just comes across so sadistic.
Here’s part of ChatGPT’s answer (shortened):
Hell as Justice:
Hell isn’t about cruelty but a way to hold people accountable for arrogance and tyranny.
Filling Hell is symbolic of ultimate justice for those who reject divine guidance.
Paradise as Mercy:
Creating new beings to inhabit Paradise shows Allah’s infinite mercy and generosity.
Allah’s justice and mercy are beyond human comprehension, so it’s not “sadistic” by Islamic standards.
Am I crazy, or does this explanation just brush off the whole problem? It’s like every uncomfortable part of Islam gets framed as “too divine for us to understand.”
Anyway, if any of you have had similar experiences with ChatGPT defending Islam or trying to justify things like this, let me know.
