what's it like to get surgery for an endometrioma ?

My OB said I will get another ultrasound in 3mos. and in the meantime is considering a medication to stop my periods and stop the thing from getting largr because axcdg to my OB it's not large enough for surgery.

it kind of sounds like the best thing to do would be to get it out tho. I'm confused about why this might not be the case? is the surgery THAT invasive? is it the cost? possible complications? my Ob was unable to eli5 to me and I am not great with understanding there things.

as far as I can tell this is the pertinent bit about my recent ultrasound: "The right ovary is converterd to a multiloculated (2 locules) cyst. Cyst 1 measures 2.2 x 2 cm. Cyst 2 contains anechoic fluid with reticulated strands."

more details:

The uterus is anteverted with slightly globular contour and homogeneous echopattern.

The anterior myometrium measures 1.8 cm while the posterior myometrium measures 2.1 cm. The cervix has homogeneous stroma and distinct endocervical canal.

The endometrium is hyperechoic with intact subendometrial halo.

The right ovary is converterd to a multiloculated (2 locules) cyst. Cyst 1 measures 2.2 x 2 cm and contains medium level echoes with a ground glass appearance. Cyst 2 contains anechoic fluid with reticulated strands. There is a distinct rim of normal ovarian stroma at its peripheral pole.

The left ovary is normal in size and morphology.

There is no free fluid in the cul de sac.
