How do I learn to REALLY Edit?

I came into Editing in an unconventional way, and took a silly (stupid!) pride in not learning how to cut the "correct" way. Now I'm a couple of years into working professionally, I feel I'm missing certain fundamentals of storytelling/editing science. For story-heavy projects I have to really dive into the weeds and dig out a story, and although I get praised for my work it sometimes feels lucky & unsustainable.

So how did you learn storytelling? To really edit? What resources helped you?
