DIY Rotary Amp Project: Help Choosing the Right Brushed DC Motor

Hey everyone,

I know this isn’t a pedal project, but since it’s part of my guitar setup and involves DIY electronics, I figured this might still be the right place to ask. If not, feel free to point me to a better subreddit!

I’m building a DIY rotary amp for my guitar using a salvaged Leslie module from an old organ. The original two-speed motor is broken, so I want to replace it with a brushed DC motor that I can control via PWM for smooth, adjustable speed.

The unit is belt-driven, so the motor needs to deliver enough torque to drive the Leslie mechanism, operate quietly to avoid adding noise to the amp, have a wide speed range (low to high RPM), and run on a standard DC power supply (likely 12V or 24V).

I’ve decided on a brushed DC motor for its simplicity but am unsure which one to choose.

If you have a better idea of how to solve this problem (or an alternative approach), I’d love to hear it as well!

Any advice on motor specs, minimizing noise/vibration, or setting up the speed control would be awesome!

(Picture is not mine since I’m not home rn)

Thanks in advance!
