Condemnation has a new meaning for me.

I'm not sure what this subreddit's rules about politics are, but I'm posting this anyway. Do tell me if it goes against any rules, but it's fine if it gets taken down.

For context, I'm a musician and in several vocal groups, so I pay attention to how I sound singing. DM is usually my go-to for warming up my vocal chords at home in the shower, especially since I've found my voice somewhat similar to Dave's.

For the political part of this, all you need to know is that I'm American, queer, and really pissed off. I don't have a problem saying those things since I'm very open about them on reddit.

As I sat around yesterday and processed everything that happened with the inauguration, I found myself absent-mindedly singing Condemnation, since the lyrics line up pretty well with how I feel in the eyes of many in my country: condemned and accused, my crime being authenticity to myself as a non-binary person. I just felt so angry at the world.

It all whirled around in my head for a while until I realized how much it affected my singing. The helpless anger leaked straight into the vocals, resulting in something very visceral, emotional, and despite my feelings... perfect. It left me feeling a bit like Alan and Flood when they heard Dave's vocal recording for the piece. Despite feeling pretty shitty, I think I made a breakthrough with how I express myself as a singer, all while appreciating the work the band put into the song and Dave's amazing vocals. For some neat info on that, check out this cool article I found on SOFAD:

Thank you to Depeche Mode for making so many songs I can relate to and appreciate.
