Difficulty in making friends

I got admission into Shivaji and on the orientation day even though I talked with as much people as I can from many departments, today on the 1st day I felt lonely. It's like most freshers who got a friend on the 1st day itself are those who came with that friend from the same city while I have came alone. It was really wierd walking around campus alone while seeing everyone in groups. It's not that I am social awkward,it's just I find it difficult to talk to people without being creep, especially to girls. Like obv I can't talk to any random girl moving in campus but still I feel I will be left alone as I am going to my hometown for a week due to some work, after I'll return I guess everyone will have their groups and I'll be aloneee. You all guys pls help me how can I like interact with boys and girls without being creep.
