Reading my first McCarthy book
So, I’m currently only 82 pages into The Road and wow am I hooked! His writing boarders on poetry at times and the way he describes everything is stunning. It draws you into the world completely. I heard that his writing was akin to Melville and Shakespeare and even the King James Bible and I didn’t really understand what that meant. And never really reading much Shakespeare and no Melville, that didn’t mean much to me but I can definitely see the bible comparison in his writing with the and, and, and.
I don’t know if I’ve ever felt this strongly about how an author writes before. The first bit of conflict in the book at 60/70 odd pages, I was utterly glued. I couldn’t wait to read each word and I was just utterly immersed into the scene.
That being said though, at times I have no clue what he’s talking about and the way he writes dialogue annoys me slightly with how it’s structured and the lack of quotation marks but other than that I can’t really find any flaw.
I’m really interested in reading the blood meridian next as I’ve heard is his best work but a difficult read. Also the judge memes on here make me laugh although I don’t have a clue about his character other than he’s either A) A huge giant evil baby man or B) just bald and fat and likes to dance. Either way, I’m intrigued.
Anyways here is just a post about my first encounter with Cormac McCarthy and his works. I’m completely enthralled and can’t wait to read more!
