Cavs best realistic package to get Cameron Johnson
If the Cavs are as high on Johnson as reports indicate, I believe this to be their best realistic package.
One way or another, the Cavs are going to be a second apron team next year, meaning trades like this will no longer be possible. If the Cavs want to make a big swing, this year is their last chance to do it.
If they’re confident they can retain TY Jerome with the MLE + space under the second apron, and then re-sign Levert to go deeper into the luxury (please lmk if I’m mistaken at their ability to re-sign Levert, as my understanding is that they’ll be able to do that after re-signing Jerome but I could be wrong) then the rotation next year looks like this:
C: JA
PF: Mobley, Wade
SF: Johnson, Strus
SG: Mitchell, Levert
PG: Garland, Jerome
This is a lineup I’m pretty comfortable with as we continue our window
Do the Nets go for this? If a bidding war breaks out, probably not. But if the Nets do go for it, I think you’ve got to accept.
Thoughts? Questions? Concerns? Not trying to be reactionary after last night, I just think this is the Cavs best chance to improve the roster before it gets significantly more expensive
