Diamond art birthday cake?

My teen daughter is planning to do diamond art for her birthday. I'd like to make a diamond art themed cake, but Google isn't providing much inspiration. Has anyone tried this? If so, what did you use for "diamonds"? I'd like something smaller than m&Ms or Skittles I think
