I ordered a 5950x, should I refund it?

I put down some money on an AMD 5950x and I'm wondering if there's still a point in buying it. My current board is a Gigabyte x470 aorus ultra gaming, and I don't think it has the VRM's to be able to overclock the 5950x. At first I thought "why not upgrade the CPU, I've had this little 2200g since I bought this board". Then I saw that 16 core CPU on sale for $500 and got roped in. The idea was to make the most of my old PC parts to make a decent backup system, but I worry it's taken too long since it's getting hard to find high end AM4 boards. I usually buy local retail and don't buy stuff online, so my options are limited. It looks like there's a Gigabyte x570 aorus master available from a chain near me, but the only ones are open-box and on the other side of the country. Is it worth the gamble, and getting them shipped over?

Also, I have a new motherboard and 7800x3d on order, so when I can pay those down I'll have a newer system. I wonder if I should just save the money to use for that instead.

Am I wasting money by throwing it at AM4 if I have to buy a new motherboard?

Edit: After reading the responses, I've become convinced that my eyes were bigger than my wallet, and that instead of spending more money on AM4 stuff, I should focus my spending on my AM5 stuff. Namely, the Gigabyte x670E Aorus Extreme and 7800x3d. This old 2200g system isn't great overall but it's still useful as-is for emergency use. It's even OK for gaming. So I guess I'll be refunding the $10 I put towards the 5950x.
