Why is the urethra always in the wrong spot on anatomy diagrams?

The diagrams I was shown in school or see on the internet don't match up to what I see in the mirror. My urethra is at my vaginal opening with less than a mm of separation. There's only smooth skin from the clit down to the holes. Is it just a simplification to show the urethra really high up so that it's obvious it's a different structure? Or is my anatomy just weird?
