Must we print the Berlin welcome card?

I've bought a couple of Berlin welcome card tickets on the official website and downloaded them in PDF form. However, it says that the ticket must be printed to be considered valid and that showing it in electronic devices is not acceptable.

Is this a "real" requirement? Are we going to be ok by just showing the tickets on our phones if asked?
