Explaining to Kids

I (heterorom ace cis male) recently started dating a woman who has three elementary-age kids from a previous relationship. I had the opportunity to meet the kids for the first time when I had them all over a few days ago.

All went great, except when the kids wanted to check out more of my house (I have lots of nerd art, video game posters, etc. that caught their eyes), and I felt my anxiety jump because I also have several ace flags and such hanging around. I quickly tried to process how to respond if they asked me what the flags were for, as while I have been out to their mom since day one, and they all understand some LGBTQ+ stuff (mostly just what being gay or lesbian means), it's not my first instinct to discuss the Split-attraction Model with an 8-year old. 😂

Has anyone else found a good way to address being ace with younger kids? I don't want to outright lie to them by just making something up, but I don't want to confuse them/ say something inappropriate for their age/ make them think I don't like their mom, etc. either. Thanks for any thoughts!
