Recent reconstruction of the Baths of Caracalla. It was designed w/ help from art historians, archeologists, architects, & various other academics professionals, creating a stunning piece of work that does a phenomenal job of giving us an idea of what one of the marvels of Ancient Rome looked like.

This bad-ass reconstruction focuses on the bath block, the contiguous suite of spaces that was dedicated to exercise and bathing. This area is the best-preserved part of the complex. The original architectural decorations have been restored where known, and otherwise the model uses decorations inspired by contemporary monumental structures.

They also restored several of the free-standing marble sculptures that were recovered from the ruins of the Baths in recent centuries. These are all currently housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Among them are some of the most technically ambitious and imposing sculptures ever made, including the Farnese Hercules (Weary Hercules) and the Farnese Bull (Punishment of Dirce).

Hoping people can be mature about some of these pics and not flood the comment section with a bunch of childish nonsense. This sub isn’t the place for that kind of bullshit.
