QFH Antenna Build

I’m just getting into the hobby, my first build has been an antenna for capturing NOAA weather satellite data. I’m using and RTL-SDR v4 with a custom 3D printed cooling system and the SDR++ software on macOS. This whole stack is very polished and well done by all the developers!

Photo 1: a white PVC pipe about 1 meter tall with multiple shorter white PVC cross braces. A set of two red wires are wrapped helically from top left to bottom right around the pipe assembly. The antenna assembly is leaning up against a gray-blue wall.

Photo 2: a copper colored, 3D printed rectangular case with a Noctua fan on either end for push-pull airflow. The fans are Noctua’s signature tan and dark brown.

Photo 3: a processed image capture from the NOAA 15 downlink transmission on December 13, 2024 at approximately 1830 MST. The image is of the souther continental United States with a small storm system visible over the Gulf of Mexico and into Texas.
