My best friend said it sounds like machinery, specifically like a construction site. I think that perfectly ties together with the “they’re not alone out there” theory and the coal tunnels we saw. Since Nat and Travis only scouted their surroundings in winter when construction is stopped, and now in summer they have a comfort zone thats and everything they need without having to leave into unknown possibly dangerous places. I could imagine them being found through them in the end, since rescue is near atp. They crashed in May/June and spent 19 months there, now its June again so only 6-7 months left .
